CDW works together with suppliers to deliver on CE Marking

Leading specialist aluminium manufacturer and supplier CDW Systems will be offering installers all the support and information they need regarding CE Marking.
CE Marking is a declaration by the manufacturer that its products meet the requirements of the relevant standards recognised across Europe.
A hot topic in the glass and glazing industry, from July 1 2013 CE Marking will become mandatory in the UK, as part of the Construction Products Regulation legislation. Any window or door product not CE Marked after this date cannot legally be placed on the market.
CDW Systems is working together with SAPA and other systems suppliers in order to quell uncertainties surrounding who is responsible for displaying the symbol and ensure its installers customers will be fully briefed on the matter.
Colin Urquhart, CDW Systems Operations Director comments: “The manufacturer has the primary responsibility regarding CE Marking, and the organisation that places the complete product on the market is the one responsible for applying the CE Mark and accompanying information. Put simply – this is the organisation that brings the frame and glass together.”
Colin further explains that installers purchasing unglazed frames and glazed units separately will be classed as the manufacturer and therefore responsible for applying the CE Mark.
“Installers who purchase glazed frames should ensure that they are already CE Marked and will have a responsibility to ensure the correct information is passed on to the purchaser or the client.”
Installers will be able to download and complete a Declaration of Performance (DoP) via CDW’s website. All they will have to do is log-in with a unique password and download the form. Also available will be information documents regarding CE Marking.
CDW Systems will also be producing a Q&A document and accompanying literature outlining how installers can CE Mark their products; and according to Colin, the manufacturer’s customer support team is on-hand to deal with any enquiries.
According to Colin, CDW Systems is acquiring the relevant information from SAPA, and is currently working together with key suppliers, to ensure its whole product range is covered.
“CE Marking may be familiar to many installers as it’s a commonly found on many household items; its extension to our industry is a requirement under European Union law and we always follow any legislation changes affecting our industry and respond accordingly.
“We work closely with SAPA and all other systems companies we deal with on product developments and we’re delighted to be doing so again regarding CE Marking,” Colin concludes.
