Worldwide aluminium market expected to double

The worldwide aluminium market is expected to double within the next 10 years, industry experts predict.
This positive outlook is reinforced by figures released by Statista and Hydro, which reveal global aluminium consumption is increasing year on year.
In 2015 global aluminium consumption increased by 15% to 14.8m tonnes in Q2 compared with Q1 in 2015. Compared with Q2 2014, global demand rose by 5%.
Global demand (excluding China) increased by 5.8% compared with Q1 and was 2.1% higher compared with Q1 2014.
The aluminium industry as a whole is expanding, and with this the building and construction sector forecasts strong growth figures.
Jerry Webb, Managing Director of specialist aluminium fabricator CDW Systems, comments: “Aluminium usage is increasing within commercial construction, and this has been strengthened by a revival in the domestic market. We predicted 2015 to be a good year for aluminium and our recent record trading figures coupled with the success of our customers has reflected this.”
Although the future looks positive the construction industry is not without its challenges.
Maintaining prices amid periodic economic change is a major issue facing the industry. Sharp declines in pricing following the economic crisis saw excessive warehousing of aluminium, but now demand is picking back up to relieve surplus metal supplies.
In 2015, production increased by 6% on the previous year and demand rose to 5.1%, narrowing the gap but causing prices to increase across the board.
Jerry says that despite hurdles faced by the sector he remains positive for the future of aluminium in commercial and domestic buildings.
He commented: “The prospects for aluminium are bright, presenting lucrative opportunities for installers. We want to remain at the forefront of the aluminium market; to promote the benefits of this material and to give our customers the best chance of winning new business by supplying quality aluminium products for commercial and domestic applications.”
CDW Systems has been operating for twenty two years as an aluminium specialist, manufacturing and supplying a wide range of windows, doors, shop and curtain walling, using some of the leading aluminium profile systems on the market today including SAPA, AluK and Smarts.
