After 14 years of hard work and thousands of lives safeguarded worldwide, the all-important day finally came for window restrictor specialists Jackloc® to officially receive the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation, the most prestigious award in UK business.
Friends, family, customers and dignitaries joined the Jackloc team at their Leicestershire headquarters for the event, including Police & Crime Commissioner Lord Bach and High Sheriff for the region, Tim Maxted. After the Grant of Appointment was read by the Clerk of the Lieutenancy, the award was presented to Directors Emma Wells and Judith Burrows by Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Lady Gretton.
“As you can imagine, we are thrilled to officially receive our Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation,” comments Emma. “Winning the Queen’s Award – a globally recognised business award is an incredible achievement, and we still can’t quite believe it. The success of the Jackloc brand and our MK2 key-lockable restrictor at home and abroad has been phenomenal and it looks only to improve thanks to this prestigious award.”
As a proud, family-owned, family-run business, Emma and Judith’s parents also attended the special event. Their father Derek Horne, a respected industry consultant, pioneered the original restrictor after hearing the distressing story of a child dangling from a hotel room window, and named it after his Grandson Jack.
That simple, yet effective solution was developed and transformed into a business by Emma, Judith and their late sister Deborah, and now includes a full range of universal window and door restrictors which are used globally by the leisure industry, housing associations, the healthcare industry and educational institutions.
"We are of course delighted to pick up the Innovation award but we are not stopping there,” adds Judith. “Our next aim is the Queen’s Award for Export as Jackloc continues to grow rapidly in markets outside Europe including North America, the Middle East and Asia. The Jackloc range has set the benchmark for window safety, dramatically reducing the risk of accidents and falls from windows, and we are committed to safeguarding lives wherever there is a window and the potential for an accident.”
Established in Leicestershire in 2003, Jackloc are the Queen’s Award-winning window and door restrictor brand. A family owned, family run business, Jackloc supplies their British-made cable restrictors to a diverse range of organisations across the world. Jackloc were also recipients of the Thomas Telford Award for Innovation and were named Leicestershire Small Business of the Year 2015.
