Photo competition boosts Reddish Joinery's customer engagement

A picture speaks a thousand words, or so the saying goes. For one Greater Manchester home improvement company this phrase has taken on a new significance thanks to an innovative photo competition that has seen their business boom.
Reddish Joinery, a home improvement company and timber product manufacturer based near Manchester, have been running a monthly photo competition since the start of 2015. Every month, the company asks its customers to send in their installation photos online. The winner receives £50 and their photo is promoted across Reddish Joinery’s various digital platforms. The competition itself has led to a number of benefits for the company, including an increase in sales.
Improving customer engagement
“The aim of launching a photo competition was to improve how we engaged with our customers online,” explains Lee Parrot, Director of Reddish Joinery, “ As a 3rd generation company we place a big emphasis on our customer service and quality. We thought that giving our previous customers the chance to send in their installation pictures was a practical way to boost customer engagement and give the company a human face”
The competition has certainly helped to do that, with the company reporting a subsequent boost in online traffic and sales since the competition launched in January.
Developing marketing material
As well as powering customer engagement, the photo competition, which was developed by full service marketing agency, Purplex, has also developed a useful bank of marketing materials for the company, with the winning photographs being used for a range of promotional content such as case studies and testimonials. “It’s a great way to gain high quality marketing material,” Lee comments, “The winning entry receives £50, and we receive the rights to use the photo in future marketing material: everybody gets something!”
With the competition running for the rest of the year, the potential benefits for Reddish Joinery look set to only increase.
